Brian Lawlor
Group Chief Commercial Officer at B4B Payments
“My career actually started in telecoms,” says Lawlor, who began working life in the international department of a major global telco provider.
“It was here I had a commercial support role covering the whole of Europe, so I had early experience travelling to meet clients globally and worked with sales teams to sell into the biggest telcos around the world.”
It was this formative career that gave Lawlor a taste for the commercial sales process, and he took a keen interest in developing relationships with clients and selling solutions.
“This path took me into my first contact with the payments world,” he adds. “I joined Edenred, which was then called Capital Incentives, and moved into the sales team to sell solutions and programmes to major blue chip corporates. Within that included several payments vehicles, which marked my first dabble in this industry.
“I really transitioned into payments fully when I joined Payzone selling pre-paid card solutions, before moving to Visa where I helped develop what was then known as the pre-paid market, but what today is very much enveloped in all things fintech.”
Some years later, Lawlor was approached by Banking Circle Group, who wanted to enter the card issuing market. “I, along with others including Jennings, joined Banking Circle Group to help lead the eventual acquisition of B4B Payments.
“I moved across full-time into B4B payments following the acquisition and the rest is history.”
